Do your tastebuds prefer Snickers over kale? Me too.
Nutrition is a big word. It’s one of those words that honestly most of the time, I stray away from. It has such a big meaning for so many people. But it doesn’t have to.
I haven’t always been a good eater. I was picky as a child, then ate everything in high school and basically binged on foods late nights in college. It hasn’t been a healthy cycle with me and nutrition, but I finally found out something that really works for me.
Taking note of body cues. I know how my body feels after I eat pizza. Loads of cheese and carbs is a recipe for not my best workout the next day. I feel bloated and not happy. My body loves a well-balanced meal. Proteins, fats and carbs about 4 times a day. My body loves to eat about 1-1.5 hours before a workout, and eat about 30 minutes after a workout. My body doesn’t love alcohol, so I don’t do that too often. Writing down what you eat and HOW it makes you feel is oh so important.
Meal planning and meal prep. Sometimes I’ll be at the gym for 12+ hours at a time. If I’m not prepped, you better believe I’m going out for coffee (which includes a croissant), lunches, and snacks. Not only am I wasting money, I’m wasting time, and don’t even know what I’m eating. The more planned out I can be, the better my day will go. So plan your meals, snacks, and WATER so you will be prepped for success. Don’t know how to do that? Check out my TL Eats ebook!
Understand what calories are and nutrition labels. A calorie is just a unit of energy. Everything we consume has a number attached to it. So if you are trying to gain or lose weight, it’s important to understand how many calories are in the things you are using. If you just want a better understanding of how much you are eating, counting calories using something like MyFitnessPal can help!
And lastly, there is no such thing as good food or bad food or cheat meals. The goal is to be able to eat intuivetly and things that make you feel overall, better. If you restrict so hard or make things “bad” you’ll never have a good relationship with food. Take that from someone who always thought food was the enemy.
And as always, go drink more water!
